Easy Sweet Potato Chips
This post will be short & sweet just like these sweet potato chips. I’ve been trying to incorporate ways for my husband, Chris to actually enjoy eating sweet potatoes (like I did here). These sweet potato chips proved to be a success! Plus, they’re baked, not fried, so you can feel good about eat them. Even better they’re made with only 4 ingredients! I served them with a simple sriracha ketchup but that’s totally optional.

Roasted Brussel Sprouts with Honey, Sriracha & Lime
According to the ground hog we’re in for 6 more weeks of winter, sigh. So crank your ovens & continue winter veggie roasting. This time try these brussel sprouts with a kick (sriracha, lime juice & honey). The original recipe calls for frying the individual leaves - which Itried & failed miserably in the patience department & wanting to clean up after - so I roasted them instead.

Spicy Crab Cakes with Horseradish-Sriracha Remoulade
By now you're probably sick of eating turkey. One thing we never get sick of in our house is seafood - we could probably eat it everyday and not have so much as a peep of a complaint spoken. It's almost the weekend so I hope you have a little bit more down time & more time to cook! Skip the take out or the your usual chicken routine & try this spicy crab cake recipe (or if spice isn't for you, try these). It's got a little bit of spice & the remoulade (aka fancy word for saucy tartar-esque mayo) I adapted from this recipe I found that actually reminded me of these crab cakes I made a while back. It's a great recipe to prep earlier in the day & then stick in the fridge & cook when you're ready because the cooking part only takes a matter of minutes.
You can serve it as an appetizer or load up an entree plate with two cakes & some veggies & call it dinner like we did. We had left overs so I packed up the ingredients (crab cake - wrapped in foil; 2 slices of bread; a small container of remoulade; mixed baby field greens) for a crab cake sandwich that both Chris & I constructed for lunch at our respective offices.

Fall Salad with a Sweet & Spicy Oil-Free Dressing
It's finally feeling like fall out there. We've been eating a lot of squash at our house as of late. It's a real fall like veggie (or is it a fruit? it has seeds so I think it's a fruit). As you know I usually just roast up some squash to keep on hand like I did in this post last week. This time I incorporated butternut squash into a hearty salad with a sweet & spicy oil-free dressing that I will definitely be making again.

Bang Bang Grilled Shrimp Salad
Hi! I'm back! Hope you've all had a wonderful Labor Day. Mine was chock full of a relaxing trip to the beach with family, vegging out, a little house keeping and eating of course!
I made this shrimp salad one night when Chris was out so I was just making dinner for one person, me! I didn't want a big meal since I had pretty much been gorging myself all week (oops!). I also didn't want to spend too much time making dinner because I was just tired.
There's this shrimp that Chris & I love to eat at Bonefish Grill called bang bang shrimp. I like to this of this grilled version as a little bit lighter but still packed with flavor. Plus I ate it with mixed greens - so that's automatically better, right?

Savory & Spicy French Toast
Around 5:30/6:00pm everyday I am reminded that I'm now an adult. This revelation comes from the fact that I (not my mom) have to answer the question, "what's for dinner?" Last night I perused the web for an idea of what to make. I like to try new things as much as make things I've made a million times. This recipe for savory french toast seemed like a good mix of the two.
Chris loves breakfast for dinner so I thought I'd give it a try. Note to self: when making french toast of any sort, make sure you have bread in the house. I'd like to give a special thanks to Chris for running out to get said bread last night to make this post possible. Thanks Chris!
I used the recipe I found on Food52.com (worth checking out if you haven't yet) as inspiration while improvising with the things I had on hand. I served it with a salad for dinner. I think this is definitely a brunch worthy dish for the weekend as well so you have Saturday & Sunday coming at you why not give it a try? Check out my recipe after the jump.

Tomato, Cheese & Egg Crêpe Squares
I love finding inspiration from fellow bloggers, mostly because I like to think they're just like me, a real person who probably lives, eats, dresses & sleeps in an apartment. I've had the pleasure of meeting the creative mind behind Downtown Romantic in the past through my friend Christine. Although I haven't seen Laney in quite some time I enjoy checking in on her blog & chic lifestyle every now & then. Besides her luxe taste in clothes, the girl knows how to eat & everything seems so decadent. So this past weekend I tried my hand at the crepes recipe on her blog with my own twist with some spicy sriracha salt my sister-in-law gifted me for Christmas.
Click through for my version of Downtown Romantic's crepe squares recipe & photos of how I did it.

Crab Cakes with Sriracha Mayo
The other night I crafted these crab cakes, or shall I call them crab piles, for a quick dinner. It's true I should have let them sit in the fridge so they could stay together but who wants to eat at 10pm on a school night? Not this girl & definitely not the guy she married. So I carefully flipped my piles in a saute pan & well they still got a nice crispy crust & were tasty enough to serve & eat.
