Christmas Tree Decorating Basics

Christmas Tree Decorating Basics. heatheromade.

This past weekend Chris, Jennifer & I rallied on a dreary Sunday to help Grandma decorate her tree.  Ok well to be fair, Chris did all the heavy lifting. My Aunt Rosemary unwrapped each individual ornament in preparation for hanging.  Then, Grandma directed Jennifer & I where to hang them.

Grandma has some ornaments that are 60+ years old.  Click through for some tips that I picked up from my Grandma on how to decorate a proper tree & keep your ornaments for years & years.

  1. Store ornaments in large containers either carefully wrapped in paper or tissue, or better yet, in their original packaging (yes, Grandma keeps hers!).
  2. Label said containers to identify what's in each one.
  3. Store oranments together (not in five different places around the house).
  4. Utilize strong people in your life to help you carry boxes of ornaments to the tree area.
  5. Put the lights on your tree first.
  6. Hang lighter, more delicate ornaments at the top & heavier ones at the bottom.
  7. Look at your tree, if you see large gaps between the branches hang a larger or longer ornament there to fill the space.
  8. It's ok to just hang the ornaments you like & not to put out every single one.
  9. Get as many hands to help you as possible, this will make 60+ years worth of ornaments magically appear on a tree in about an hour (not hours!).
