Better Home Cooking Basics: Buy a Block of Cheese & Grate it Yourself

Skip the prepackaged shredded cheese & buy a block instead. You can grate it or slice it as you need it. It's surprisingly more cost effective (read: cheaper!) & I think it tastes better too.

  1. Agree! But how does a klutz like me avoid grating fingers in the box grater, when I'm too lazy to get the Cuisinart out?
    On an unrelated note, any tips for strawberry rhubarb pie or crisp, or other stuff to do w rhubarb?

    1. Dulcie, try a microplane style grater, they're a bit more accident prone people friendly for people like us!

      I just saw a recipe for strawberry rhubarb salad. I'll post when I try it!
